The Resources
The resources have been made to support a highly structured multisensory programme of work to help dyslexic pupils learn to read and write. It is based on the progression of sound work outlined in Alpha to Omega by Beve Hornsby and Frula Shear.
The resources would also be helpful for any pupil experiencing difficulty with reading and writing who would benefit from the small progressive steps. [e.g. Children with general learning difficulties]
Teachers in mainstream primary schools would also find most of the resources very useful for phonic work and the teaching of sight words in the classroom. Many could be used during group reading activities and some for classroom display.
The Resources include:
- Posters e.g. over 50 A4 posters of Pictures & Mnemonics for Sight Words
- Sheets on activities to consolidate Sight Words and Sound Work.
- Words and Sentences for each phonic pattern
- Rime ending boards with picture cues.
- Rime Ending Cards
- Mind Maps
- Alphabet Cards
- Word cards (for all sound groups)
- Cue Cards for common confusions e.g. bdp Short Vowels
- Card Games e.g. Picture Pairs, Rummy, Chain Words, Bingo, Patience,Switch, Rhyming Pairs, Spelling Choice Pairs, Syllables, Doubling Rules
- Board Games, e.g. Christmas Trail game, Read Write Spell or Rhyme
